Mom's A La Maison jelly roll quilt finished

My mom recently finished her beautiful A La Maison (Kaufman Fabrics) jelly roll quilt. The quilt pattern Sweet Menagerie came from the Moda Bakeshop website

She pieced the back from leftovers and some lovely yardage obtained from Beary Quilts, Cape Town.

Summer frocks

I did some dress-making this weekend. I finished one dress using Westminster fabric called Blossoms and Sparrows (Misaki Collection). I used the New Look pattern 6910 again, except this time I made it with a higher neckline and did not add a belt.

I also almost finished another sun dress, using New Look pattern no. 6457 (Dress A), using 2.5 yards of Moda American Jane School Days fabric called Recess.

I finally have my own sewing room in our house; it's a real blessing! At last I can pack out my my whole stash and all my quilting books and and get inspired while working.

Before and after

This is how my husband and I spent most of our summer December-January vacation (hence the lack of quilting lately...). There was no garden at our new little house, mainly just sad grass. Unfortunately the clay soil is rock hard in summer and required much digging to prepare the beds to plant roses and shrubs. Below are the before and after pictures (the acacia thorns are to prevent the neighbourhood cats from using the flowerbed as a toilet - not very pretty but effective).

I also finished the sitting room chintzy curtains. I think it came out quite well and matches well with the lounge chairs my parents blessed us with. Hopefully I'll get around to my quilting now :)
