Getting there...

I've now got 16 blocks, I think I'm going to stop at 20 blocks. I'm still deciding on the border, maybe a pieced segment border with all the left-over scraps?

Summer star quilt update

I've made a few more blocks, sorry for the poor photography, I found it really hard to photograph all the blocks at once on the table. It takes me about 30 minutes to select and cut the fabrics, and about 30 minutes to sew together one of the star blocks, and I don't have much free time in the evenings after work, hence the slow progress... I will keep plodding on :)

Star blocks progress

I've been making some progress with the colour selection for my star blocks. I've unpicked the first block I made (previous post). I found it's best to choose the fabrics in daylight; in this way one can really see if the colours work together and whether there is enough contrast between prints. Only another 28 blocks to go...

Summer Star Quilt planning

I'm busy trying to narrow down the fabric choices for my new Summer Star Quilt, which will be made using Kaffe Fassett fabrics (naturally!) and based on the New Orleans Star Quilt pattern from his book "Kaleidoscope of Quilts". I attempted my first star block this morning, and I'm getting a feel for it, I still need to increase the contrast between some of the fabrics to make the star design stand out more.
It was fun to make! Not as difficult as I initially thought. Here is the original pattern. I think that I might make it bigger, perhaps with a more interesting border.
